He was born as Thinnan and His father was a chieftain.Thinnan means “strong” in Tamil and according to his name, he became a strong man by acquiring the skills of martial arts and archery from his father and other elders. One such saint was Kannappa Nayanar who belonged to the hunting tribe Nagan. They are known for their steadfast devotion to Lord Shiva and have influenced the Bhakti movement. Nayanars are saints of Tamil Nadu who are devoted to God Shiva.
